U.S.F.S. Basic Skills Program classes at The Pond

The United States Figure Skating (U.S.F.S.) Basic Skills program was developed in 1968 to encourage ice skating at all levels and to enhance the quality of ice skating techniques. This program consists of a comprehensive lesson and testing structure that is exciting, rewarding, safe, and fun! It has proven to be an overwhelming success across the nation with over 600 registered groups, the Skate With U.S. program is quickly becoming the most popular way to learn to skate in the country.
Program Objectives:
- Provide an enjoyable and safe skating experience
- Teach correct technique of basic elements promote health and physical fitness
- Develop social relationships through group instruction
- Teaching life long skills

I.S.I. Basic Skills Program classes at The Pond

The Ice Skating Institute is an international industry trade association encompassing all aspects of the ice skating industry.
ISI was founded in 1959 as a nonprofit organization for owners, operators, and developers of ice skating facilities. For over 45 years, ISI has become the industry trade association for progressive ice skating facilities, managers, coaching professionals, suppliers and individual skaters.

Program Objectives:
- Encourages participation in ice skating as a recreational sport.
- Provides information for the development and construction of ice arenas.
- Produces trade and educational publications and literature.
- Holds an annual educational conference and trade show for arenas managers, skating directors, instructors and skating industry manufacturers, suppliers and retailers.
- Provides ice skating programs for skaters of all ages and abilities.
- Hosts four recreational skating competitions annually.
- Organizes consumer shows in conjunction with its recreational skating events.
- Tots: The ISI Tot testing program offers specialized instruction for three to five year-olds with the emphasis on fun.
- Beginning Skaters: The ISI pre-Alpha test program introduces skaters to the wonderful world of ice skating. Emphasizing fun and safety, lessons quickly generate confidence as new skaters develop skills and make new friends.
- Basic Skills: The ISI basic skills skating program guides new skaters through carefully graduated maneuvers, ensuring rapid progress over short time periods. Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta tests provide direction and build competency in all important foundation moves. Forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and edges are taught in exciting, low cost group lessons.
Registered Basic Skills members will receive:

- Recreational Ice Skating - quarterly magazine featuring recreational ice skaters, programs, events and tips.
